does not replace the expensive machines if you like intense espresso, but this makes much better coffee than any other dripping coffee makers. It is very convenient to use and much much easier to clean than french press. The unit is made in high quality, and very cleverly designed. every piece coming with the unit is actullay very useful (except the stir, I use my chopsticks instead) and the unit can be neatly stacked together. I have used it every day for two months and am very very happy with it. However, to get best of it, you need a burr grinder and a hot water dispensing pot (such as Zojirushi CD-LCC30 Micom 3.0-Liter Electric Dispensing Pot). In addition, to my taste, it doesn't go very well with dark roast beans like those you get from starbucks.

I bought this for my sister, but just had to try it out...spend some time reading the instructions, it sounds like a lot, but once you do it it's a piece of cake. Makes some of the best coffee I've ever tasted, stores neatly too. I will be giving away the other 4 coffee makers I have, this is it. You can make a concentrate that stores in the fridge, expresso for two or americano for 4. You must use the right grind, ( drip or expresso) scoop the coffee in the tube after placing a filter (1 year supply included) in the bottom screw on mesh. Drizzle some hot but not boiling water on to the grounds to wet them , them pour in the water to measure for how many cups you want from 1 to 4, stir the water and grounds 10 sec. then put in plunger and press SLOWLY down. By using water around 165 degrees, ie not boiled, you get flavor smoothness and richness. Then you put the concentrate in a cup and now you can add boiling water if you want it really hot. Fabulous, better than my friend's $900 unit.

I purchased this gadget from [...] after reading the reviews on amazon.com and coffeegeek.com. At first I was skeptical because in the past I bought items based on reviews but I was not too satisfied with them. However, after putting my brand new Aeropress Coffee and Espresso Maker to use today I can vouch that it delivers the best coffee you can possibly make at home without a professional quality espresso machine. The coffee comes out very smooth and without any bitterness. I was truly amazed that such a simple and unassuming gadget will deliver such excellent results. I can tell you that there is a very strong coffee culture in my family and wherever we travel around the globe (and we do travel a lot), we search for a strong cup of coffee and try to experience new methods of making coffee. As a result I have many coffee gadgets, but Aeropress puts to shame all except my steel Piazza Stovetop Espresso Maker. Two points of caution: if you like a strong cup of coffee as I do, then you need to use two and a half scoops of coffee and not just one; secondly this product does not make an espresso, it simply makes a very flavorful, smooth drip style coffee.

This is a well made plastic product which is manufactured here in USA. However, I wish it was made of steel. I love sleek brushed steel kitchen gadgets
